Hello Pieter, thanks for this great forehand demonstration. I love your channel. When do I the racket drop in relation to the bounce of the ball?
👏👏🏽🇪🇸
Your microphone is so much better now 👍
A grip change is a major change IMO.

Thanks coach
I did notice that the players eyes never follow the ball... very different from most other sports. Can't wait to try this technique tomorrow 🙌
bro what is going on with that net?
You teach basic things which none other channel does. As a beginner I like this channel.
There are a few other things. These situations, it is better not to use slice, but they still exist. When it is windy, if the wind is blowing away from you and it presses against the incoming ball, the ball does not move into your racket so slicing the normal way becomes very hard because you need to meet the ball on a slice at a very sharp angle to put pace back which causes you to shank. In this situation it's easier to start the slice motion almost like a regular backhand then go down when making contact with the ball. I think Graf used that stroke. It keeps the racket face against the incoming ball longer and puts more forward racket mass on the ball without the need to come down on a sharp shanky angle. Then there is the situation when it is humid and the ball only comes up to your thigh or knee level. This should be hit with a topspin not a slice, but because it is often a situation that happens when I am unwillingly pulled into mid court and not really ready, I end up doing a windmill slice to a corner or ideally a drop half volley. That type of slice looks like you are pulling the racket face across a table in front of you at various heights, and when the ball lands on the other side it jumps away from the court. I don't know if that fits either J or U. There are so many types of slices.
Yes. Don't forget to mention one of the most valuable aspects of a slice over a topspin is that it is much easier to put side slice on the ball with backspin. I rarely do a vertical slice except for approach shots or straight down into someone's feet when they are midcourt, and perhaps the U slice when I am on the run and not in position to rotate for a full stroke. By slicing you can often slow down the opponent's incoming ball (because they have to swing up on the ball) enough that you can step in and use a J slice at 8 o clock on the ball or 4 o clock and have it arc out of the court just behind the service box. It is the same trajectory as a slice serve just without needing to land in the box. This opens up the court much more than a topspin because the opponent has to come forward and into the alley and the ball is low by the time they get to it. Even if you don't win the point by attacking into the open court, if you keep doing that every 3 or 4 shots it will drain them in singles because they can't just stay back and defend just 20% of the court. Once you can step in 3 feet from the baseline, if you elect to do a heavy J slice and the ball is normal height you can slice downward (ball is going down when it passes the net) which is very nasty because of the other big benefit of slice--the takeback on the racket is identical to that for a backspin dropshot. Most people in that situation opt for topspin so they don't realize how much chaos it can cause if you start arcing slices to 4 points on the court without giving away which shot is coming. Granted if you are playing a guy 20 years younger, it is harder to burn out their legs but you aren't using much energy playing this way either. If the opponent is physically stronger than you, you can chain forehand and backhand angled J slices, electing to prolong points instead of winning them because you want to win the match not just the game. This is a lot harder to do with just topspin or just vertical slices. Slices are also a good way to attack the feet of opponents who leave a gap to the net because the backspin means they have to volley upwards so you can get weak volleys back. This angle probably doesn't fit either slice type and I am sure instructors specifically teach people not to use it as it is most effective when done as a forehand. It's a third category of slice.
I learned the J slice from watching Fed but I found that if I stay with my Eastern grip, it's easier to create more pace on the ball. The U slice came naturally when I was on the run and needed to push the ball further back. I think the slice is a lot easier to master than your topspin stroke on the backhand side. On the forehand side, it's a lot more tricky and can be as hard to master as the topspin stroke.
I have Northern forehand!
Waiting for it... now I can get kick instead of slice :)
My slice goes to the moon 😢
thanks for the tips. Is this wilson blade v9? what string/tension do you use? i have the same with hyper g @52lb and kills my wrist after an hour or so.
i think the first advice which is about keeping the grip flexible has worked very well for me.
My slice goes to the moon
I don’t really understand the obsession with getting more power on the forehand. There's no real challenge (at least for almost any adult man) in hitting a forehand *hard*. The challenge is in hitting it hard without it going *long*! Almost everything I do in my forehand is about hobbling it just enough so that I don’t hit it too hard and as a consequence hit it long. I want to work out how to hit it consistently just soft enough that it stays in, without needing to resort to blocking or slicing it.
Sounds like you need to work on your topspin as the harder you hit a ball with topspin, the more it goes in.
I thought you would talk about arm speed too, which is very important after ball contact
My guy 🔥
The unfortunate irony of this advice is that you're countering a very easy, defensive, high percentage shot with a riskier, low percentage shot. So if you're not winning the point with that shot, you're going to repeat the interaction, which statistically puts the odds in their favor.
Why can't I get this right 😢😢

Nice video Coach. Probably you may consider using a Feeder to feed you balls so that your demonstration is more natural. I like your English. Mahboob Khan High Performance Tennis Coach Head Coach, Ace Tennis Academy, Islamabad Pakistan.
What setting is your slinger?
Slice approach
I had no problems with power using the full western grip as long as you hit in front of you. However, the weakness of the full western is playing low balls which were a nightmare to do. Most of the times you hit into the net even if you bend down. The times that you manage to get it over the net, you have no real control over where the ball will go. Playing with friends that slice a lot or hit low flat balls were a big problem. Playing against ppl that hit with a lot of topspin is no problem. So I switched to extreme Eastern grip. Low balls are no problem. There are some weaknesses but these can be managed. So I agree with you that a beginner should start with an Eastern or semi-western.
For full Western FH grip the point of contact should be high and more in front as this grip is suitable for shoulder high balls. For low balls you may learn to adjust your Grip.
slice too high
0:22 "And then, BRUSH" LOL
forehand approach slice
That sound!! 😘😘
I have seen it all now coaches training to hit the ball out.
Didnt even realise I had a full western grip until some people told me that my grip was weird lmao. I feel like very low balls are the easiest to hit tho idk why
